Coming [SO] Soon: HP and the VIPs book!
It’s finally [almost that] time! My oldest son, Hayden, and I have been working on a children’s book for a WHILE now and it’s nearly ready to make its debut out into the world!
This book tells a fictional story about a country music band made of five Very Interesting People, all of whom have a unique disability – that certainly doesn’t hold them back from enjoying a full, fun life! The band, HP and the VIPs, share with their readers five handy tips about disability etiquette and how a person can interact well with a Very Interesting Person, a “VIP.”
Our hope for this book is that children (and their parents) would grow to feel more comfortable around individuals with disabilities and would ultimately feel confident in how to approach and interact with someone different from themself. And our hope for the disability community, is that they would feel seen and known as they see people like them in the pages of this book.
The concept for this book has been in our heads and hearts for years. Hayden and I visit classroom on occasion and share the material you’ll read in this book with students and staff eager to begin bridging gaps between “typical” children and those with a disability. The writing of this book has taken us much longer than it should (LOL) but that’s what happens when one of the authors has six kids and the other author has six hundred appointments and high drama issues every week. 😉 Our illustrator, Justin Dunn, has been amazing to work with (and beyond patient with us) and if you need someone to help you with a project, check out Justin’s work!
You can pre-order a copy of “HP and the VIPs: Gaining Backstage Access to Life’s Very Interesting People” by visiting our book pre-sale website. There are options available on the website to make donations to our book publishing process as well as simply pre-ordering a copy of the book. All options on the website include an autographed copy of HP and the VIPs.
Thank you for your support in this venture of ours! We are excited to see our time and effort finally come to life!
